CBS Sports and the WNBA signed a deal this week to televise some of next year’s games, finally broadening the exposure for women’s professional basketball like men's basketball in the US. Starting Saturday May 25, the network will broadcast 40 live WNBA games in primetime, and on weekends as the league’s 2019 season kicks off. 3. Netflix dropped the trailer for “Knock Down The House” this week -- an award-winning political documentary chronicling the stories of four of the 529 women who ran for congress in the historical 2018 midterm election. Director Rachel Lears captures the intimate and empowering journeys of former bartender and current political firecracker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), nurse Cori Bush (D-MO), mom Paula Jean Swearengin (D-WV), and Las Vegas business woman Amy Vilela (D-NV) and how each woman was moved to fight for their respective communities. 4. In a social media post that’s now gone viral, a 24-year-old Muslim woman, Shaymaa Ismaa’eel, spreads love in the name of racism and hate. While attending an Islamic conference in Washington, D.C. this Sunday -- an annual weekend-long event that brings together thousands of American Muslims -- Ismaa’eel passed by a group of anti-Islam protesters, hateful signs in tow, shouting at her and her friends. What’s a girl to do? Our she-hero crouched in front of the haters and flashed a peace sign and a brave smile, prompting an outpour of support via social networks and nationwide media. Shaymaa expertly captioned the pic, “kindness is a mark of faith. Those who aren’t kind have no faith.” 🙌🏽
