#FemNews Weekly Roundup Vol. 1

Updated: Jul 5, 2018

For all those Badasses trying to catch up on the headlines, here are a few highlights from the past few weeks. As always, join in the conversation using #TheFemWord and follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

1. Be still our feminist, 90s-adoring hearts… Daria will side-eye once more on our tv screens. (via Hello Giggles)

“The fact that yet again, as in 2015 and 2017, games featured at E3 are over three times as likely to feature a male player-character as a female one speaks to the fact that we still have a long way to go before being anywhere remotely close to gender parity, and sadly, we haven’t been making progress here.”

5. “History isn’t static. It’s constantly moving and changing and looking different, depending on where you are.” Director Irene Lusztig wanted to make a movie about feminism, American, and Ms. Magazine. Yours in Sisterhood is the result. (via Huffington Post)

6. In other news, notoriously funny badass Mindy Kaling delivered Dartmouth College's 2018 commencement address. She also managed to slip in some very helpful dating advice for men concerned about dating in the “Me Too” era…

“This one is just for guys: When you go on dates, act as if every woman you’re talking to is a reporter for an online publication that you are scared of,” she said as the crowd laughed. “One shouldn’t need the threat of public exposure and scorn to treat women well; but if that’s what it’s gonna take, fine. Date like everyone’s watching, because we are.”

And finally, we are saddened to share that Koko the gorilla passed away in her sleep at the age of 46 this week. She communicated through her impressive mastery of American Sign Language. She loved her kittens. She met Robin Williams and Mister Rogers. She taught us incredible things about gorillas, empathy, and ourselves. Koko, you badass, you will be missed. (via Jezebel)
