Komal Kaul has spent the last 10 years focused on leading the development and fundraising efforts for several high-level non-profits in the Washington D.C metro area and India.  Having a scientific background and experience in bio-technology, Komal understands first-hand how development and awareness efforts can help children succeed around the world and in the United States. Through her vast network of connections and relationships, Komal has been very successful in her own personal philanthropic mission, as well as assisting multiple other charity organizations.

Her most recent development efforts included chairing and leading two major fundraisers for her children’s schools, the Landon School in Bethesda and Sidwell Friends School in the District. Both events created an opportunity for parents from various backgrounds to connect with each other and work for a common cause, and generated record funds for school scholarships. 

​

Komal’s international philanthropic work includes her efforts in organizing a fundraising event for an underprivileged girls residential school in Bangalore, India. Her energy and determination led the local Indian American Community in D.C. to work together in a collective effort on this wonderful cause, create awareness about the importance of girl’s education, and produce generous donations for the school. 

​

Komal is also the Founder and Executive Officer of the Sam India Project, an organization that applies proven and effective solutions to reduce Acute Malnutrition in India.  For the past several years, she has worked with food scientists and non-profits in the United States, as well as leading doctors, government officials and Members of Parliament in India on the severe issue of malnutrition amongst Indian children.  In partnership with the Government of India, Sam India has set up the first local production facility for RUTF production.

Currently she in involved in mentoring and supporting several non-profit organizations, including the Foster America initiative founded by Sherry Lachman; Street Level Awareness Program (SLAP) founded by Mriganka Dadwal, which teaches self-defense to women and girls in India; and other initiatives that work with issues pertaining to women and children in the state of Maryland and in India.

Komal has a Masters in Physics from University of Kanpur, India and a Masters in Bio-Technology from University of Maryland. Prior to her work with non-profits, Komal’s professional career included working as a senior analyst for the USDA in Soy Genomics where she identified and sequenced disease causing genes in the Soy genome through various functional genomic tools, BLAST2GO and Microarray analysis. She has also worked at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur on Drosophila and Cancer Genetics.

Komal and her husband Shirish are very involved in hosting fundraisers for political leaders that impact the Indian American community, including Congressman Ed Royce and local Montgomery County, Maryland representative Del. Aruna Miller.

​

Komal is a mother, wife, friend and connector.  She is passionate about creating and helping causes that improve the human condition around the world.
